Every time we welcome the New year we make resolutions and new plans about our life goals, changes in our lives and even improvements in our homes. We welcome changes, to make new beginnings, or because we have the need for renewal, or simply because we want to be in line with the new trends in decoration.
We present to you all the trends that have risen from our team’s latest visit to Cersaie, the largest and most famous exhibition of ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishing, organized each year in Bologna, Italy. Anyone can get inspired by the manufacturers new lines and implement them in their own spaces.
Large tile slabs will continue to be a trend for this year, and most probably for the following years as well. The variety of colours and textures was impressive. Marble, stone, granite and cement become part of the interior design without any functional limits. The barriers between surfaces and furniture brake down, with the very same tiles becoming the furniture, the kitchen and bathroom countertops, doors, tables, cupboards and window frames. Lightweight, versatile and with an extremely aesthetic impact, the large tile slabs create integrated environments, ensuring maximum freedom of expression and endless design possibilities.
Wood-effect ceramics, although a trend that first appeared several years ago, evolves in colours, sizes and designs year after year and is perfected in texture. This gives the possibility to enjoy the appearance of wood-effect in places that have been traditionally deterrent for the use of wood, such as the bathroom area, the kitchen and the terrace. In some manufacturers, the wood-effect has made its appearance on glossy surfaces and the effect is impressive!
Terrazzo, a composite material consisting mainly of marble, quartz, granite and glass filings, whose history traces back in ancient Egyptian mosaics, today it comes from Italy and has made its presence intense in the Cersaie Exhibition.
In Cyprus it used to be a widespread material for many years and is best known as mosaic. But abroad, it is not new material either, since one of its most popular applications is in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This material has made a comeback and seems to be one of the trends for this year, since it had a strong presence in many collections at the Cersaie Exhibition.
Retro style has been present in many collections over the past few years, proving that vintage will never be out of fashion. For 2019 Retro style returns with new modern and geometric designs. Earthy and soft colours like terracotta, the colour of copper and rust prevail, giving warmth and tranquillity to space.
The metal finish is the new trend that began to make its appearance and we still have to see how long it will hold. Ceramic tiles for wall or wall coverings flooring resemble oxidized bronze or metal. These surfaces are very suitable for restaurants, bars or hotels, as they look impressive with the right lighting.
